Growing up on a coffee farm on the lush slopes of Mount Elgon in Bumbo village, located in the Bugisu region of Eastern Uganda, I experienced firsthand the magic of coffee. Life on the farm revolved around the rhythms of nature: the morning dew shimmering on coffee leaves, the joyful symphony of birdsong, and the hum of conversations as neighbors gathered to harvest coffee cherries. Coffee was more than a crop; it was a way of life, a shared culture, and a source of community pride.

For the smallholder farmers of Bumbo, coffee represents resilience, dedication, and tradition. Generations of farmers have mastered the art of coffee cultivation, with every step—from handpicking the ripest cherries to meticulous sorting, milling, and drying—carried out with love and care.
